Billabong High Show Team

Wednesday October 2, 2013

Billabong High School at Culcairn took their team of show cattle to Melbourne Royal Show in September and were rewarded with some outstanding results.

Their Limousin steer “Shortbread Cream”, who came on to the team very small, was destined for the Light Weight Domestic Steer or Heifer Division. However, this division was removed by the RASV so he was pushed on by the school and with time and spot on feeding he managed to not only make the Medium Weight Division but won his heat and then took out Champion in his weight range! A great result all round.

Head Science-Agriculture Teacher Michelle Godde reported the school also had four other heat placegetters and every student who went to the show won a parading ribbon.

Further success came for the school later in the week when the South Devon “Tiny Teddy” bred by Kirndeen South Devons Culcairn, won the Champion School and College Carcase, Champion Export Carcase and Grand Champion Carcase of the Show. He was also part of the team which won the Borthwick Trophy (South Devons).
