HISTORY

Julia’s riding career began at the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club’s facility at Bees River when she was 7 years old. The Hargreaves family moved to Connecticut in the United States when Julia was 9, and she continued her training at Oxridge Hunt Club for the following four years, riding successfully on the equitation-hunter circuit.

The family returned to Australia in 1997, and Julia attended New England Girls School where she rode successfully on the school team for the next 5 years. She completed her schooling at Northholm Grammar in Sydney, again representing her school with distinction on the riding team. During this time, Julia trained with Vicki Roycroft, who accompanied her to Europe for three months’ training and competition in 2003.

Julia has been training with George Sanna since 2005. With her first schoolmaster Grand Prix horse, Haymen, Julia quickly rose through the ranks, to be named National Champion Young Showjumping Rider in 2007, after a series of wins riding her mare Courchevel, as well as Copabella’s stallion, Visage, and Haymen. She began competing successfully at World Cup level in 2008.

Also a gifted coach in her own right, Julia trains a team of competitive young riders. She is also the primary rider for Copabella Sporthorses and responsible for the training and competitive progress of their young showjumping horses.
