CopRice Lamb Finisher Pellets

CopRice Lamb Finisher Pellets are designed to be fed to lambs on limited pasture, however they can also be used to feed older sheep. The pellet is a balanced ration containing calcium, phosphorus, sodium bicarbonate and vitamins & minerals. Ammonium Chloride is included to reduce the problems when feeding concentrates to sheep. We have also been conservative with the protein level, as high protein in sheep rations can lead to a number of problems.

It is important when feeding lambs to introduce concentrate slowly over 2 weeks and to incorporate 30 - 60% hay/silage in the diet. For a 35-kg lamb we should build up to feed 300 to 500 grams per day. In extreme cases we may feed up to 800 grams per day. Growth rates of around 200 grams per day can be expected in lambs fed a balanced diet.

Urinary calculi (blocked urethra due to stones) can be a problem in sheep on intensive fattening rations. To overcome this in our Lamb Finisher ration we have:

• included a high level of calcium with no added phosphorus or magnesium.
• included a high level of salt.
• added ammonium chloride to reduce urine pH. (Be sure not to put copper or magnesium in sheep feed.)

Rumen modifiers such as Rumensin® and Eskalin® can be included in CopRice Lamb Finisher Pellets, however a vet script is required.
